Murder Hobo Tavern Brawl! Brings RPG Chaos to Cards

Every roleplaying group has had the moment where a quiet tavern visit turns into a full-blown bar fight. Murder Hobo Tavern Brawl! builds a whole card game around it. It is a quick, chaotic fantasy battler for 2 to 6 players, running about 20 to 30 minutes, where you field a band of fantasy heroes and start hurling weapon and magic attacks across the table.

The game packs 39 original heroes, each with its own mix of attacks, special abilities and, naturally, smack talk. It comes from designer Steve Wetherell with art by John Luther Davis, published under the banner of Authors & Dragons, the comedy actual-play crew, with the campaign run by Factory Window Studios. The pitch is blunt: easy to learn, brutal to survive, last one standing wins.

This is firmly a beer-and-pretzels party game rather than a deep strategic duel, and that is the point. Combo your attacks, gang up on whoever is winning, talk a big game, and enjoy the carnage. It is the kind of small-box filler that earns its place at the end of a long night, when nobody wants to crack open another rulebook.
