Fans of cosmic horror have a new reason to clear the table this month. Miskatonic Tales: Journey to Innsmouth, Chaosium's cooperative storytelling board game, is finally rolling out to general retail after months of being available only direct from the publisher.

Set up your group for freeThis is a fully cooperative adventure for one to four players, set in the same fog-bound world as Chaosium's legendary Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game. Rather than rolling for initiative and trading blows, you and your fellow investigators explore the eerie streets of Innsmouth and the islands beyond, with every move you make on the map answered by a passage from an included storybook. An optional companion app adds voiceover narration if you want the dread piped straight into your ears.
The box holds three standalone scenarios, designed by Eric Dubus and Olivier Melison, that can be played on their own or strung together into a longer campaign. There's no strict turn order, so the table works through each mystery together, weighing clues and deciding how far to push before something pushes back. Sessions can run anywhere from 90 minutes to three hours, so set aside an evening rather than a coffee break.
Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.
See how it worksIt's priced around £55 ($70) and is stocked across Chaosium's UK, EU and US warehouses, with high-street and online game shops getting copies now. If Lovecraftian investigation is your group's thing, this slots in alongside heavier campaign boxes without demanding a rules degree to set up.
A creepy co-op like this is made for a one-off horror night. Rally your group and dim the lights.
