Legend in the Mist's $1.7M Fantasy RPG Ships in June

Legend in the Mist, the rustic fantasy RPG that has spent two years near the top of everyone's most-anticipated lists, is finally about to reach tables. Son of Oak Game Studio, the team behind noir favourite City of Mist, has confirmed that print books begin shipping this month after the project pulled in over $1.7 million.

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

See how it works

Designed by Amit Moshe, Legend in the Mist throws out stat blocks in favour of a tag-based system. You describe your character, gear and conditions in plain language as tags, then resolve the moment with a single roll of 2d6 plus your tags, which tells you success, impact and consequences all at once. It is pitched squarely as a narrative-led alternative to d20 dungeon-crawling, the kind of game where story and character drive the action rather than a grid and a pile of modifiers.

The numbers show the appetite for that approach. The latest campaign drew $1,744,163 from 18,917 supporters, more than doubling the studio's original 2024 Kickstarter. To mark the physical launch, Son of Oak is running a month-long LaunchFest of discounts and free content through to mid-June, with the two-volume hardcover corebook going for around $50 during the event. Print copies ship from mid-June, with a wider retail release expected in July.
