Games Workshop has shown off something a lot of Warhammer 40,000 players have wanted for years: terrain that turns up already coloured, straight out of the box. The Nottingham studio dropped an official video on 13 May, cheekily titled "Colour us surprised?", after photos of pre-coloured sprues leaked on Reddit earlier in the week.

Set up your group for freeIf you have ever started a 40K table and then watched it sit half-finished because painting buildings is nobody's favourite job, this is the news for you. The reveal showed a range of industrial 40K scenery, from corner ruins and barricades to generators, cabling and objective markers, with the colour baked right into the plastic. We are not talking about a flat base coat either. The revealed pieces carry hazard stripes, weathering and glowing screen effects already in place.
Pre-coloured plastic is not brand new to the hobby. Companies like Archon Studio have sold pre-painted terrain for years, and third-party scenery has long been a shortcut for time-strapped gamers. What makes this notable is that it is Games Workshop doing it, on official 40K kits, which suggests the idea has gone fully mainstream. The same preview also teased a new set of Ork bikers, long overdue an update, with a chunky redesign and a heavily armed leader.

See how it worksGames Workshop has not confirmed a price or a firm release date, though the timing lines up with the rollout of 40,000's 11th edition, which is due in the coming weeks. The pieces should still take paint if you want to add your own touches, so this is an option rather than a replacement for the brush.
For newer players and busy groups, a battlefield that looks the part on day one is a big deal. If you have been meaning to get a 40K night going, a good-looking table is half the battle. Find or start a wargaming group near you and you might only need to supply the snacks.
