Paolo Mori's Blitzkrieg! is one of those games that punches wildly above its weight. A full World War Two simulation in 20 minutes, packed into a small box, with genuinely tense decisions on every turn. It earned a strong 7.6 on BGG and spawned Caesar, which applied the same tug-of-war system to the Roman Empire. Now Floodgate Games is taking the series further with Flintlock: Global Warfare in 20 Minutes, and this time the scope is bigger than ever.
Set during the Seven Years' War — the first truly global conflict of the 18th century — Flintlock offers two distinct two-player experiences on separate boards. One covers the European, Indian, and Atlantic theatres of the Seven Years' War, while the other focuses on the French and Indian War in North America. Each works as a standalone game, but here is the exciting part: you can combine both boards for a 2v2 team-based battle, a first for the series. Solo play is also included.
The design team has expanded too. David Thompson and Roger Tankersley have joined Mori for this instalment, adding fresh perspective to the series' signature tile-placement and area-influence mechanics. Players form alliances, assault forts for bonuses, and manage military resources across theatres — all within that trademark brisk playtime.
Floodgate Games ran demo sessions at Gen Con 2025 and the reception was enthusiastic. The Kickstarter campaign launched in March 2026, with the retail price set at $44.95.
If you have been looking for a quick two-player game that delivers real strategic depth, or if you want something your whole group of four can play in teams, Flintlock looks like a smart addition to the shelf. It's the kind of game that earns its spot in a bag for game night precisely because it never overstays its welcome.
