Flamecraft Duals Turns the Cosy Dragon Hit Into a 2-Player Game

Flamecraft is one of those games that wins people over before the rules even come out, all warm artwork and tiny dragons running enchanted shops. Now there is a quicker, two-player spin on it. Flamecraft Duals strips Cardboard Alchemy's cosy hit down to a sharp little head-to-head, and it is on show at UK Games Expo 2026.

Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.

See how it works

Where the original Flamecraft is a gentle game of placing dragons and tending a town's shops for one to five players, Duals is an abstract pattern-builder for one or two players, designed around a quick head-to-head duel. You compete to arrange dragons into the patterns the game asks for, with each dragon type bringing its own power to bend things in your favour. A round takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes, it suits ages 10 and up, and the box is built to travel, so it works as well over a coffee as it does on games night.

Designer Manny Vega and artist Sandara Tang are both back from the original, and that pedigree shows. Since its 2022 release Flamecraft has picked up Dicebreaker's 2022 Tabletop Award for Best Board Game and the 2023 Gra Roku award for prettiest game in Poland. Duals keeps that same storybook look, so it should land instantly with anyone who already adores the first game.

The clever bit is the audience. Flamecraft fans now have a way to get that same feel at a two-player table, where the full game can feel a touch light, and the travel-sized box makes it an easy thing to keep in a bag for couples or commuters.

Flamecraft Duals will be at Cardboard Alchemy's stand at UK Games Expo, running 29 to 31 May at the Birmingham NEC. If the original ever charmed your group, put this one on your demo list.
