Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG Passes $6 Million on BackerKit

The Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG and Unstoppable campaign is not slowing down. Renegade Game Studios has pushed past the $6.26 million mark (roughly £5 million), with over 26,000 backers and 27 days still on the clock. The campaign launched on 14 April and funded in under 60 seconds.

The pre-launch numbers tell part of the story. With 65,000 followers before going live, this was the most-followed TTRPG project in crowdfunding history. It pulled in nearly $5 million (£4 million) within its first 24 hours, and thirteen stretch goals have already been unlocked. The latest milestone at $6 million upgrades Gold and Damage tokens from cardboard to wood.

The campaign bundles two games together. The Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG is a full tabletop roleplaying game with a 300-page core rulebook covering dungeon floors three through five, featuring over 30 playable races and multiple classes. Alongside it sits Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable, a solo and co-op card-crafting deckbuilder designed by John D. Clair (the creator of Mystic Vale). A Season Pass offering ten digital content drops starting November 2026 rounds out the pledge options.

Both games are based on Matt Dinniman's bestselling LitRPG novel series, which follows Carl and his cat Princess Donut as they survive an alien-run dungeon crawl broadcast as a reality show. The books have sold over six million copies. Dinniman's path to authorship has its own charm: he used to make his living drawing illustrations of cats at cat shows.

With nearly a month of campaign time remaining and momentum like this, the TTRPG crowdfunding record books are going to need updating.
