Ever wanted to play as Trinket the bear? Now you can. A Familiar Find, the new card game from Darrington Press out now, casts two-to-four players as the loyal animal companions of Exandria's spellcasters, racing each other across shifting magical locations to gather rare ingredients. It's a 30-to-40-minute filler that should slot neatly into game-night warm-ups for Critical Role fans, and it's the latest from a designer with a Mensa Select trophy on his shelf.

Set up your group for freeThe headline pull is the cast of familiars: Trinket from Vox Machina, Mister the Tressym, Pâté de Rolo, and seven others, each on their own player board with unique abilities. You're not the powerful spellcaster on this adventure; you're the cat or bear or weird flying rat doing the actual work while your owner sits in their tower demanding eye of newt. Win conditions involve either grabbing three Astral Essence cards or completing a full ingredient set, with the shifting location deck keeping the route to victory unpredictable from one game to the next.
The designer is Ian Zang, who picked up a 2018 Mensa Select award for his card-game Constellatus. He's joined by Aaron Salmonowicz and Alex Uboldi on development. The hidden-information element ("hide your intentions, choose the perfect moment to reveal ingredients") suggests Zang is leaning into the bluffing-with-a-tight-deck space rather than building a tableau-heavy engine. At 84 cards plus 13 location cards, it stays compact enough to fit in a backpack for cafe play.
Stop juggling Meetup, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. One platform for your gaming group's events, RSVPs, and member management.
See how it worksThis is part of a broader Darrington Press push to bring more Critical Role characters out of the actual-play YouTube void and onto your table. With Daggerheart's Age of Umbra mini-series premiering 29 May and Hope and Fear expansion landing 25 August, Critical Role's tabletop arm is having a busy year.
A Familiar Find is in Critical Role shops (UK, US, CA, EU, AU) and friendly local game stores now. If you're hunting for people to play it with, find a board game community in your area.
