A decade ago, designer Paul Dennen combined deck-building with dungeon-crawling and added a dragon that gets angrier every time you make noise. Clank! A Deck-Building Adventure became one of the most beloved modern board games, spawning expansions, a legacy version, and a sci-fi spinoff. Now Dire Wolf is kicking off the 10th anniversary with The Mummy's Curse expansion for Clank! Digital, available now on Steam, the App Store, and Google Play for $8.99.
The expansion adds two new desert-themed maps. The Palace of Kittypatra alone should tell you everything about the tone Clank! has always nailed. Alongside the Pyramid of the Ancients, you get 40 new Dungeon Deck cards and a new dragon, Croxobek.
The standout addition is the Mummy itself, a shambling nuisance that lurks in one of four map quadrants, handing out Curse Tokens. These tokens inflict negative victory points at the end of the game, but defeating the Mummy can yield useful rewards, even if it insists on getting back up every time you put it down. The push-your-luck tension that makes Clank! work (delve deeper for better treasure while the dragon's rage track creeps higher) gets a fun new layer with curses to manage on top of everything else.
The expansion also includes nine new single-player Challenges with heroic variants, letting solo players brave sandstorms and collect sun disks. The Mummy's Curse requires the Clank! Digital base game to play.
