Board Game Quest Crowns Its 2025 Award Winners

Vantage, Jamey Stegmaier's cooperative planet-exploring adventure from Stonemaier Games, has picked up Best Cooperative Game at the Board Game Quest 2025 Awards, announced yesterday. The 13th annual awards, selected by the editorial staff with reader input, also handed Best Strategy/Euro Game to Star Trek: Captain's Chair and awarded Best Two Player Game to Star Wars: Battle of Hoth for its revival of the Command and Colors system.

Captain's Chair, designed by Nigel Buckle and David Turczi, is a deck-building game for 1-2 players that lets you command one of six iconic Star Trek commanders, from Picard to Sela. Board Game Quest's reviewers called it "a surprise hit" and ranked it among their top games of the year, praising its solo mode and deep strategic replay value.

Star Wars: Battle of Hoth recreates the iconic Empire Strikes Back battle through branching campaign books that shift depending on who wins each scenario. It plays in about 30 minutes per round and was described by reviewers as their favourite Command and Colors game to date.

Vantage, meanwhile, drops 1-6 players onto an alien planet with nearly 800 interconnected locations and over 900 discoverable cards. One reviewer at BoxKing Gaming played it sixteen times for roughly fifty hours and still found new content every session. Meeple Mountain gave it their highest rating and called it their favourite game of 2025. Stegmaier's open-world cooperative design clearly resonated with voters across the hobby.

The full list of winners across all twelve categories is available on Board Game Quest's website. If you haven't tried any of the winners yet, now's a good excuse to rally the group for a game night.
