If you want a game that hits the table fast, looks gorgeous and still makes you think, Blorp deserves a spot on your shelf. Smirk & Dagger's new tile-drafting puzzle is all bright, wobbly creatures and clever spatial decisions, and it plays in about half an hour.

Set up your group for freeOn your turn you draft one tile from a four-tile offering and add it to your own growing menagerie, matching the colours along the edges. You are trying to grow red, green and orange Blorps as large as possible, but a Blorp only scores once it is fully closed off with no open ends. Your biggest Blorp of each colour earns double points, while the rest are worth a point per tile, so there is a constant tug between going big and playing it safe. Special Trumpet tiles let you link same-coloured Blorps together for one enormous scoring blob, which is where the game gets properly thinky.
The art is the hook. Designer Garth Kaufman gives the whole thing a Dr. Seuss-by-way-of-a-fever-dream look, and reviewer What's Eric Playing praised that whimsy and the depth the trumpets add, while noting the end-game scoring can be a faff to tally. There is also a real-time variant called Blorp Blitz, where everyone plays at once until someone runs out of tiles.
